Tips for Relaxation:
There are many options to attempt to relax your body, mind, and voluntarily controlled muscles that may help reduce the anxiety associated with painful intercourse or vulvodynia. The following methods won't necessarily help you relax the unconscious involuntary spasms of the pelvic floor, but may help you isolate the muscle tension in the areas surrounding the involuntary muscles giving you some relief in muscle tension.
In addition, the following exercises & ideas may help to center you to understand your body better & to center yourself to begin a healing state of mind. By all means, these things cannot hurt ! These are most beneficial if done over a period like several weeks or months. In doing these things in repetition, you will give yourself the best opportunity to reap the best benefits.
Light candles.
Say affirmative statements.
Write a gratitude journal.
Masturbate.
Look at yourself naked in a mirror.
Dress in attractive clothing &/or makeup.
Exercise.
Meditate.
Rediscover your faith in a higher power of your choosing.
Dream.
Envision yourself enjoying sex.
Give yourself pedicures & manicures.
Keep your legs shaved.
Try yoga.
Read books, such as "Simple Abundance"
Take bubble baths.
Pamper yourself.
Take time to appreciate yourself.
Listen to soft music.
Dance to your favorite type of music.
Participate in volunteer work.
Exercise regularly.
Get a massage.
Go have a makeover at your local Clinique Counter.
Get a new haircut.
Plan a trip.
