Dilation Exercises:
What are dilation exercises:
Dilation exercises are the manual insertion of objects initially thin and gradually wider into the vaginal canal. This is done in order to stretch the surrounding tissues at the opening of the vagina and to retrain the body's physiological response from spasming to accepting penetration in a more relaxed state.
Continued practice and gradual insertion of objects or fingers also eases the psychological anxieties like fear of repeated pain or irritation, discomfort with touching one's genitalia, realization that there is open space & that the body can adjust to accept entry.
Dilation exercises also empowers women as it allows the women to control her body's responses over time by stopping when it feels too much, learning to be comfortable with insertion, and finally being able to feel sexual pleasure with insertion.
The main misconception is to start with too large of an object or jumping to use larger objects before you get reasonable comfort levels with what you currently have achieved.
There are women who have not even been able to have entry with a Q-tip. So starting at that level, it is best to learn to touch the genitalia with your hand & an object such as a dilator.
Before I continue, I should explain what a dilator is, how to buy one, & how to use them. A dilator is a fancy term for an object that is used to widen a certain area, in this case the vaginal canal. Usually means starting with a very thin width, then gradually inserting larger dilators that are wider in width, until you are able to insert objects that compare to normal or average penis width. You may have to adjust the personal width depending on your partner's girth.
Dilators are made of a plastic material that are in a plain simple way penis-shaped without looking like anything real, more like a plastic rod. Since you have to have a prescription to get them, you have to ask your doctor for them. Sometimes if worded correctly on your bill, you can get your insurance to cover the cost. They are highly expensive though at an approximate price from a set of three or four from ranges of $129 to over $300.00! Therefore, a much cheaper alternative is to buy & use dildos or vibrators. Dildos and vibrators are basically the same thing with added features, such as texture, color, & shape. You will find that these are less costly though still expensive to some extent. These you can purchase on your own by visiting a local adult bookstore or by purchasing them through the web. I have links for online catalogs some are very modest sites considering the object of sales, and others are more graphic including pornographic material. I have noted which sites contain nude pornographic material compared to the modest ones that way you can choose what type of store best suits your needs & best suits your reaction to graphic images.
I suggest you look at many & find something relatively small & attractive to you. This object will be used on you & in you. If it does not strike you as attractive or if you are uncomfortable with it, you will lessen the chance of success in using it.
Before attempting any entry, take a few days just to get familiar with the object. Look at it, hold it, feel the texture, the shape, & become very at ease with it. Tell yourself that this object is going to help you achieve your goal of penetration & sexual pleasure. You really have to believe it in order for the exercises to work successfully.
Gradually, integrate the object into sexual play. If alone just touch it to various places on the skin, the neck, the breasts, the thighs, just to physically become comfortable to it. Then over time, gradually touch it to the vulva area. Move it in circles or back & forth until you find pleasure in the movement. Then stop at that; do not push to do more yet.
Do this for a couple days or weeks depending on your comfort level. Then move to touching the object to the vaginal opening. Move & massage at the entrance. If you feel pain or discomfort, just stop there & let it stay there not moving until the feeling disperses. If it does not let up after a few minutes or if it is excruciating then remove it immediately. Continue with the other exercises & keep attempting the vaginal contact another day.
